There are many situations where replacing a lock is the sensible thing to do — not just when a lock has failed.
You cannot know how many copies of the existing keys are in circulation. Changing the locks when you move in is a straightforward way to ensure only you have access.

The most common lock type on modern uPVC, composite and timber doors. Euro cylinders are straightforward to replace and are available in a range of security grades. If you are unsure whether your door has a euro cylinder, these are commonly fitted with Multipoint locking mechanisms on uPVC, Composite and some timber doors, with the key operating the cylinder on the outside.
Common on older timber doors, particularly front doors. A rim cylinder operates a surface-mounted latch on the inside of the door. ClearAccess can replace rim cylinders and the associated latch mechanisms.
uPVC and composite doors use euro cylinders as part of a multipoint locking system. Replacing the cylinder is a common repair — though if the door is difficult to lock, the problem may lie with the multipoint mechanism rather than the cylinder itself. ClearAccess will diagnose the cause before recommending a replacement.
Mortice locks are fitted within the door itself and are common on older timber doors. ClearAccess can advise on and carry out mortice lock replacements where appropriate.

If your door is difficult to lock or the key is stiff to turn, the cause may not be the cylinder itself. On uPVC and composite doors in particular, locking problems are often caused by door misalignment or a fault in the multipoint locking mechanism — not a failed euro cylinder. Replacing the cylinder in these cases would not resolve the problem.
ClearAccess Locksmiths will assess the door and locking system properly before recommending any repair. If the problem is with the door alignment or the multipoint mechanism, we will advise accordingly.
